Your before-you-go guide
A better visit
starts here.
Open your checklist. Gather the basics. Call us about anything unusual before you travel.
These are starting points, not a complete determination of your requirements. Ownership, liens, vehicle history, and exemptions can change what is needed. Follow the linked state instructions and call for your situation.
Renew or replace vehicle tabs
- Have your renewal notice or vehicle plate number available.
- Bring photo identification and payment for an office visit.
- Check that your address is current. Ask about authorization if someone else will pick up for you.
- For lost tabs, contact us about the required replacement paperwork.
Buy, sell, gift, or transfer a vehicle
- Bring the current title with the appropriate ownership releases, plus your identification.
- Have the purchase or gift details and bill of sale ready.
- Ask about odometer disclosure and any lien release before your visit.
- Wait to sign a title application until you are with a licensing agent or notary.
Gifts, estates, missing titles, and ownership changes may need additional documents. Call us first.
Ask about a Quick Title
- Call with your vehicle or boat details to confirm eligibility and office availability.
- Bring the ownership paperwork and identification requested for your transaction.
- Additional fees apply. Not every vehicle or boat qualifies.
Out-of-state vehicles and boats, snowmobiles, and some branded or problem titles are excluded.
License a boat, ORV, or WATV
- For a renewal, have your current registration or renewal information ready.
- For an ownership change, gather title, ownership release, and purchase documents.
- Tell us whether your off-road vehicle is used off-road only or you are seeking on-road WATV registration.
Registration does not establish permission to use a particular road or trail. Confirm local access rules separately.
Apply for disabled parking privileges
- Complete the Disabled Parking Application for Individuals with your healthcare provider.
- Obtain the separate provider authorization required by DOL.
- Review additional documentation if applying for a dependent.
Check the state instructions for current submission options and authorization formats before visiting.
Register an out-of-state vehicle
- Start with Washington DOL’s new-resident instructions, including the driver license step.
- Gather your current title and vehicle mileage.
- If a lender holds your title, call us before visiting so we can explain the document process.
- Ask which owners need to attend and what additional paperwork applies.
